Vermont offers a plethora of outdoor recreation opportunities and not all of those are on public land. A good deal of the hiking, fishing, snow shoeing and cross country skiing we do takes place on private property.
The VTGC has completed a year long process of reaching out to all recreation trail user’s with a survey series to develop a report for the Commissioner of ANR. This report focuses on recommendations that would improve state-wide recreation trails. You can access the report by follow this link.

Vermont Outdoor Recreation Plan has been Updated
The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is getting ever closer to breaking groud on constructing one of Vermont’s premier multi-use trails. The NEW VIDEO posted on the LVRT homepage summarizes the great potential.
On February 16th the VTGC had the Card Room at the Vermont State House to raise awarness amongst our representatives of the value of Vermont’s recreation trail and the current need they have due to insufficent funding, devastation caused by the spring flood and Tropical Storm Irene. We explained the role of the Vermont Trails and Greenways Council and shared this handout summarizing the current state of affairs.

This year’s Council Award winners have been notified, and we are thrilled! These awards will be handed out at our Symposium on October 15th.
Our award categories include:
David Kingsbury Smith Award: given to the individual who exemplifies a life-long dedication to trail stewardship and who has, through their efforts, made a significant contribution to trails in Vermont.
